What is cwf(custom firm ware)PLEASE TELL ME!?

i mistakenly updated my psp 3004 to fw 6.38 an i could not play iso games so many people say switch to custom firmware so will i be able to play iso games and where can i get CFW for psp3004 ver 6.38
