About my psp cfw upgrading?

My psp is on 4.00 CFW and i want to upgrade it on CFW 6.00 or later versions. There is a step by step process right? Not just straight upgrading to 6.00 right? So what version do i need to upgrade 1st? Thanks in advance! Links are appreciated!
